- Prince Adesuyi Haastrup and Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye emerge as traditional rulers.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ratified the appointments of Prince Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijeshaland and Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye as the Asaoni of Ora Igbomina.
The appointments were confirmed during the Osun State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Adeleke on Friday, according to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
Prince Haastrup, representing the Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House, was elected Owa-elect after securing the majority votes during a meeting of kingmakers held at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat. His appointment follows the passing of the former Owa Obokun Adimula, Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, on September 11, 2024.
Similarly, Prince Abikoye’s emergence as the Asaoni of Ora Igbomina comes after the demise of Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe on November 19, 2023.
Governor Adeleke, while congratulating the new monarchs, urged the indigenes of Ijeshaland and Ora Igbomina to rally behind their traditional rulers, fostering peace and unity in their respective communities.
“These appointments mark a significant milestone in preserving our rich cultural heritage and ensuring the stability of traditional leadership in Osun State,” Adeleke said.
The new monarchs are expected to uphold the values and traditions of their communities while contributing to the state’s development.
