The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has called on Governor Alex Oti to clarify recent claims regarding a purported N90 billion payment to contractors,N90 billion payment to contractors, allegedly to cover debts inherited from the former PDP-led administration.
In an open letter addressed to the Governor, Abia PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, questioned the legitimacy of the debt and demanded transparency around the disbursements.
According to the Abia PDP, the previous administration left no documented debt of this magnitude. Elder Amah expressed concerns about the payment process, citing the absence of verifiable records, and urged Governor Oti to present evidence supporting his claims.
“Such a substantial sum demands serious scrutiny,” he noted, pressing for clarity on how the total debt was calculated and the justification for these payments.
The party also called on the Governor to release the names of individuals and companies who received the funds, arguing that public transparency in financial transactions is essential to maintaining the trust of Abians.
“Disclosing the beneficiaries of these funds will help reassure the public of the integrity of these transactions,” Elder Amah wrote.
The PDP’s statement also addressed reports that Signature Bank has allegedly benefited from the additional N90 billion infusion, raising further questions among the Abian public.
The PDP urged Governor Oti to dispel any speculation by providing clear information on the transactions and their purposes.
Elder Amah emphasized the need for consistency in Governor Oti’s commitments to transparency and accountability.
“While previous statements promised open and responsible governance, recent developments seem contradictory,” he wrote. “We hope the Governor will take swift action to address these concerns.”
The Abia PDP awaits a formal response from the Governor, urging an open dialogue to address the financial concerns for the well-being and confidence of Abia State residents.
