Rivers PDP Moves to Discipline Members Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Date:

  • Disciplinary Panel Set: Sanctions loom for erring members post-2023 elections.
  • Leadership Reinstated: Acting executives plan party-wide reform and unification.

The Acting Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has announced its intention to investigate allegations of anti-party activities by members, particularly during the 2023 general elections. At a press briefing on Thursday, Acting State Chairman Robinson Nname-Ewor disclosed that a disciplinary panel would soon be established to recommend sanctions, including suspension or expulsion, regardless of the status of the individuals involved.

“We shall consult stakeholders, unite members, and restore the party’s lost glory across the 23 Local Government Areas and 319 wards. Any action capable of bringing the party into disrepute will not be tolerated,” Nname-Ewor emphasized. He also unveiled plans for a sensitization tour and a membership drive to rejuvenate the party ahead of future elections.

The Acting Executive stressed that the National Leadership of the PDP must recognize the committee led by Nname-Ewor, following the Rivers State High Court’s dismissal of the Aaron Chukwuemeka-led executive. The court ruled that the congresses producing the ousted leadership violated a prior order halting such activities until substantive issues were resolved.

In a show of restraint, the Acting Committee suspended its plan to reclaim the PDP State Secretariat at 23 Aba Road after security agencies intervened to avert a potential crisis. Nname-Ewor assured that their leadership transition had been communicated to the PDP National Secretariat, signaling their readiness to lead the party through a phase of reconciliation and reform.
