Burna Boy Faces Backlash for Walking Out of Stage at Greater Lagos Countdown

Date:

  • Fans divided as Burna Boy leaves performance without explanation
  • Social media erupts with criticism and support over fan interaction

Nigerian music icon Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, has sparked widespread criticism following an unexpected departure from the stage during his performance at the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 on Tuesday night.

The incident, captured in a now-viral video, unfolded when a fan climbed onto the stage, seemingly to approach the superstar during the much-anticipated Lagos event. Security personnel acted swiftly, removing the fan from the stage, prompting Burna Boy to pause briefly. However, moments later, he exited the stage without any prior announcement, leaving the crowd bewildered.

The unannounced exit ignited a storm on social media, where fans and critics alike expressed their disappointment. Some labeled the act as unprofessional, while others attributed it to arrogance.

One X user, Ibrahim Malcolm, tweeted, “Just pride and arrogance, somewhat disrespect to the very audience he’s performing for.” Another, Mezia Abia, questioned Burna Boy’s rationale, writing, “Someone paid you for a show, and you delivered halfway because a fan jumped on stage? I’m yet to understand the logic.”

Others defended Burna Boy, pointing out that he has repeatedly warned fans against invading the stage during his performances. “Why don’t people listen? He’s said it several times: don’t jump on the stage when he’s performing,” commented Logan Saman.

As of now, Burna Boy has not released an official statement regarding the incident, leaving fans to speculate on the reasons behind his actions.
