Wike Replies Odili Over Comments on Rivers Politics

  • Former Governor Accuses Wike of Trying to Turn Rivers Into a Private Estate
  • FCT Minister’s Ally Promises a “Deserved Response” to Odili’s Remarks

Former Rivers State Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, has drawn criticism following his remarks accusing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of attempting to dominate Rivers State politics.

Speaking during a Christmas ballad organized in honor of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his family, Odili praised Fubara’s courage in resisting what he described as Wike’s attempt to turn Rivers into his private estate. He commended Fubara for summoning “unusual fortitude” to confront and overcome unnecessary political hostilities allegedly instigated by Wike.

Odili’s comments have sparked a response from Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, who took to his official X handle to express disappointment in the former governor. Olayinka accused Odili of abandoning the role of an elder statesman and descending into partisanship.

“I read the comments made by the former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, today, and I can’t but be disappointed that someone who should be acting like an elder statesman can reduce himself to such a ridiculous level of partisanship,” Olayinka wrote.

He hinted at a forthcoming rebuttal from Wike, adding, “Well, he will get his deserved response from the FCT Minister in due course.”

The political tension between Wike and Fubara has been a source of public debate, with observers noting that Rivers State’s leadership dynamics remain contentious. Odili’s remarks and Olayinka’s sharp response signal that the feud may further escalate in the days ahead.
