Stampede: Lagos State Mandates Registration for Distribution of Palliatives

Date:

The Lagos State Government has announced that all individuals and organizations distributing food and relief items to vulnerable groups must register with the Lagos State Safety Commission.

The directive, aimed at preventing tragic incidents during charitable activities, comes with a warning of legal consequences for non-compliance.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, expressed the government’s concern over stampedes during philanthropic events in some parts of the country.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu extended his sympathies to families affected by such tragedies and emphasized the need to avoid similar incidents in Lagos.

“To ensure safety, individuals or groups intending to distribute items to large gatherings are required to obtain clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission. This agency, in collaboration with security personnel, is equipped to manage crowd control and ensure order,” Omotoso stated.

The public can register their events and seek approval via the commission’s platform at www.lasgsafetyreg.com.

The government warned that any group failing to comply with these safety measures would face legal repercussions. Additionally, the governor has directed all safety agencies to intensify their advocacy against fire outbreaks, flooding, and related hazards.
