Port Harcourt Refinery Remains Fully Operational, NNPC Clarifies

Date:

  • NNPC Dismisses Shutdown Claims as Baseless
  • Public Urged to Disregard Misinformation Aimed at Creating Artificial Scarcity

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted recent media reports alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery has ceased operations. In an official statement released on December 21, 2024, NNPC Ltd. emphasized that the refinery remains fully operational, with preparations underway for the day’s loading activities.

Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., stated, “The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has been drawn to reports in a section of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which was re-streamed two months ago, has been shut down. We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false, as the refinery is fully operational, as verified a few days ago by former Group Managing Directors of NNPC.”

NNPC Ltd. urged the public to disregard these unfounded reports, attributing them to individuals attempting to incite artificial scarcity and exploit consumers. The company reassured Nigerians of its commitment to maintaining steady refinery operations to ensure a consistent supply of petroleum products nationwide.

This clarification comes amid public concerns over fuel availability and pricing. Recent data indicates that petrol prices have risen, with NNPC fuel stations in Lagos selling at ₦1,025 per liter, up from ₦998, and Abuja prices increasing from ₦1,030 to ₦1,060 per liter.
