- Emerging political platform Team New Nigeria spearheads the movement for change.
Posters featuring former President Goodluck Jonathan have surfaced across key locations in Kano, sparking discussions about a potential bid for the 2027 presidency. The campaign material, branded with the tagline “The Goodluck Nigeria Needs—Dr. Goodluck Jonathan” and bearing the logo of Team New Nigeria (TNN), has drawn significant public attention.
TNN, a new political platform awaiting official registration with INEC, boasts a claimed base of 26 million registered supporters nationwide. The group, led by Modibbo Yakubu Farakwai, has organized nationwide rallies and is pushing for a shift in Nigeria’s political culture. Farakwai emphasized the urgency for a fresh direction in governance, stating, “Nigerians are yearning for change, and we are here to provide an alternative rooted in the ideals of democracy.”
While the posters suggest Jonathan as the face of this movement, there is no official confirmation from the former president. His spokesperson, Okechukwu Eze, has yet to comment on the development. This recalls a similar scenario in 2022, where Jonathan was urged to contest under the APC but declined, focusing on other engagements.
The movement has prompted speculations about TNN’s ability to disrupt the dominance of established political parties, including the APC. Analysts suggest that even if Jonathan does not run, TNN’s nationwide push signals a growing demand for reform and could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
