Nigerian Army Announces Burial Arrangements for Late Chief of Army Staff Lagbaja

The Nigerian Army has announced funeral arrangements for the late Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5.

A statement released by Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyode, detailed the events honoring Lagbaja’s life and service.

The service of songs will take place at the Army Headquarters’ Garrison Parade Ground, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, on Thursday, November 14, while the funeral service will be held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, on Friday, November 15.

Lagbaja, who passed away at the age of 56, is the second Chief of Army Staff to die in office within three years, following the untimely death of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru in 2021.

Born on February 28, 1968, Taoreed Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff for one year and four months, having been appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023.

He is survived by his wife, Mariya, and their two children.

The Nigerian Army, along with family and friends, mourns the loss of Lagbaja and celebrates his commitment to national service. May his soul rest in peace
