The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) is urging Nigerians to participate in a 40-day prayer and fasting program aimed at addressing the nation’s challenges and seeking divine intervention for a future of relief and prosperity. PFN President Bishop Francis Wale Oke, alongside Deputy President Archbishop John Daniel, announced the initiative during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.
Set to begin on January 6, 2025, the prayer and fasting program will conclude on February 14, 2025, with a national prayer gathering in Abuja. The event will precede the PFN’s 18th Biennial Conference, which is scheduled from February 10 to 14, under the theme “The Rebirth of a Great Nation: Nigeria is Great.” Bishop Oke shared that the PFN is mobilizing Pentecostal churches, Christians, and Nigerians across the country to join in unified prayers for the nation’s revival.
The upcoming conference will also feature prominent Nigerians speaking on critical national issues and offering insights on collective solutions for Nigeria’s current challenges. Bishop Oke highlighted that the nation’s struggles are a shared responsibility, stressing the importance of unity and faith.
Citing the biblical story of Nineveh, Oke said, “In the Bible, when judgment was pronounced on Nineveh, the king and people cried out for mercy, and God heard their prayers. We believe the same God will hear our cry today. This period of prayer and fasting is essential to our biennial conference, and we are confident that God will answer our prayers.”
The PFN president likened Nigeria’s current situation to a “painful process, like a mother about to deliver,” expressing faith in a promising future for the country. He encouraged citizens to take active roles in supporting the nation, not only through prayer but by contributing to positive efforts at all levels.
Deputy President Archbishop John Daniel shared a similar message of hope, stating, “No matter the challenges, Nigeria is on the brink of greatness. We foresee a future where Nigeria becomes a model for the world. Through prayer and fasting, we believe God will heal our land.”
He continued, “The Bible says that the prayer of faith can save the sick, and Nigeria, like a sick nation, will be saved. A prosperous, secure, and peaceful Nigeria is within reach. We believe God will see us through this hardship, and Nigeria will fulfill its destiny as a great nation.”
The PFN has emphasized that the national call for prayer and fasting is open to all Nigerians and represents a collaborative step towards ushering in a new chapter of resilience and growth for the country.
