Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Resigns as Russian Missiles Claim Lives Amid Anticipated Government Reshuffle

Date:

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, has resigned ahead of a major cabinet reshuffle. His departure comes as Russian missile strikes claimed the lives of at least seven people, including a child. Kuleba, a key figure in President Zelensky’s administration, has been instrumental in Ukraine’s foreign policy efforts, particularly in dealings with international leaders. His resignation is part of a broader wave of exits from high-ranking officials, with two vice premiers and several ministers also stepping down.

While Ukraine’s parliament has yet to vote on Kuleba’s resignation, they have already accepted the resignations of other ministers. The reshuffle coincides with increased pressure on Ukraine’s eastern frontlines, particularly near the strategic city of Pokrovsk.

President Zelensky has not provided a specific reason for the changes, but emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s institutions being prepared for critical upcoming challenges. The reshuffle is expected to solidify Zelensky’s team ahead of his planned visit to the United States later this month, where he will present a new “victory plan” and meet with President Joe Biden.

Political analysts believe Zelensky is using this reshuffle to inject new energy into his government, signaling a fresh approach during a critical period for Ukraine.
